Dear Fencers Club Community,

We recognize that diversity is our greatest strength and remain committed to combating racism and discrimination, and building a more equitable and inclusive culture at Fencers Club.

We're pleased to share the great progress made in recent months:

What's new?
  • Elected 17 candidates with diverse backgrounds and perspectives to the Board
  • Established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion 'DEI' Committee of the Board
  • Approved the  DEI Committee Charter, outlining the committee's purpose, authority, responsibilities, structure, and operating procedures
  • Revised the  Fencers Club Bylaws, adding new amendments to prohibit discrimination, promote diversity, and set forth the DEI's role in guiding and collaborating with the wider Board and its committees
  • Revised the Fencers Club Code of Honor and Employee and Coach Handbook, adding language to explicitly prohibit discrimination and promote accessibility of the sport to all individuals
  • Managed the re-opening of Fencers Club, with robust protocols for the health and safety of our members
  • Expanded eligibility for Fencers Club scholarships for the 2020 - 2021 season
  • Established a Coaching Development Program at Fencers Club to develop and train athletes into coaches, with the goal of creating a talent pipeline for future roles. Our curriculum will be shared with Pan American Fencing Confederation member countries to promote the sport of fencing across the Americas
Want to get involved?
  • Look out for 2 listening sessions beginning in the new year. Our goal is to hear what's on your minds and encourage open dialogue and communication amongst our members, staff, coaches, and Board
  • We've established a DEI Advisory Council to collaborate with the DEI committee to support and facilitate its mission. We encourage interested members of the FC and PWF community to apply to join the Council:
    1. Review the DEI Advisory Council Charter to understand the Council's purpose, authority and responsibilities
    2. Email fcmanager@fencersclub.org with your full name, telephone number, email address, resume and personal statement (detailing relevant experience and qualifications) by November 30, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST. Applicants who do not provide all requested information will not be considered
    3. The DEI committee will review all applications and may, at their discretion, conduct interviews. Final decisions will be communicated to applicants by January 15, 2021 at 11:59 PM EST
We look forward to sharing future updates on the Board's many projects and initiatives.

Sincerely,
Fencers Club Board of Directors
