Emily Cross

Emily Cross is an outstanding fencer and one of the most highly decorated women's foil fencers in U.S. history.

She started in the sport at the age of 9 and competed in her first national competition at 11. During her career, she was coached by Mikhail Petin and trained at Fencers Club.

Emily excelled in fencing at a young age and achieved ground-breaking milestones. She made her first U.S. Cadet National team at 13; a member of the U.S. Senior National team at 14; Cadet World Champion at 16; two-time Junior World Champion in individual and team at the ages of 18 and 19, respectively. She was a dominant force, both domestically and internationally.

While attending Harvard and majoring in biology, Emily focused on successfully balancing her international and collegiate competitive schedules. She was named a three-time Academic All-American, won the 2005 individual NCAA Championships, won the 2006 U.S. National Championships, and led Harvard to the 2006 NCAA Team Championships.

The pinnacle of Emily's fencing career was her historic silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Women's Foil Team event, the first and only medal for Team USA in this event.

Emily's success was not limited to the fencing strip, she graduated in 2008 from Harvard and graduated from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2016. Currently, she is a pediatric specialist at Boston Children's Hospital.

Dr. Cross spends her free time with her husband, an anesthesiologist, and their 10-month-old son.
