2013-2014 Membership Info and Guest Policy
July 31, 2013
Dear Fencers Club Members,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Our annual Day Camp, a weekly camp that runs for five weeks, is in full swing. This week alone, we have more than 50 campers solving math problems, writing stories, and playing chess in the morning. After lunch, they fence a weapon of their choice. The classes are taught by our coaches and dedicated scholar-athlete members. I would like to thank the following volunteers for making the camp a huge success: Ariana, Caira, Curtis, Harry, Iman, Kevin, Matthew, Nes and Rae. Our volunteers work from 8:45AM to 4:00PM, five days a week for five weeks of their summer vacation to teach, mentor and inspire children.
COMING UP IN AUGUST:
The Berkshires Training Camp from Friday, 8/16 to 8/23. We have more than 120 fencers enrolled. Of the 120 fencers, about 50 are Fencers Club members. The rest are coming from all over the country and abroad. Some are coming from as far away as the Philippines, Turkey, Russia and Hawaii. We will send photos from the camp once everyone settles in.
SAVE THE DATE:
Our annual College Symposium will be on Friday, September 20 at 6:00 PM at the Club. As in the past, the following head coaches will be in attendance to disseminate general information about college fencing:
Columbia University, Michael Aufrichtig
University of Pennsylvania, Andy Ma
Harvard University, Peter Brand
Penn State, Emmanuil Kaidanov
Princeton University, Zoltan Dudas
NYU, Steve Mormando
ONE MATTER OF BUSINESS:
The membership fees will be increasing for the 2013-2014 fencing season; please find a summary of the Board-approved increases HERE. Also, we anticipate congestion to increase during peak fencing hours this season. Therefore, we will be strictly enforcing the FC Guest Policy (see above link) so that everyone will have room to fence and take lessons.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of summer.
