FC Signs Contract for Permanent Home
March 25, 2015
Dear Members and Friends,
We are very pleased to update you on some very exciting news at Fencers Club. Through the collective efforts of all of you and the commitment you have all shown to Fencers Club, the FC Board of Directors, Real Estate Committee and Executive Director Liz Cross, and with the vision and generosity of Jamie Melcher and Bob Dow, Fencers Club and the Peter Westbrook Foundation expect to purchase and relocate to a magnificent new space close to our current location, and approximately doubling the size of our club. The new facility is expected to be completed by 2018. Once this space has been built, Fencers Club and the Peter Westbrook Foundation will for the first time in their history have a permanent home.
In the past six years we have accomplished much together. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization we remain unique in the fencing world and have implemented a solid foundation with mission-driven programs that are self-sustaining, make a positive impact for our members and for community at large, and raise revenue to offset our high rent. In recognition for our work with schools and community centers, in 2012 we received the USOC Community Olympic Development Program designation-the only fencing club in the country to have such a distinction. Last fall, we were selected by the International Fencing Federation (FIE), to represent the United States in the FIE’s Clubs Movement Initiative (CMI), which aims to broaden the base of fencing and increase the level of coaching and refereeing worldwide. We are now in our second coaching advancement session, training 12 coaches from the Americas and the Caribbean.
By signing the contract on our new space, our work is just beginning. To ensure the next step is a smooth transition, we will need the support and expertise of our diverse membership and community in the following areas: graphic artists, engineers, legal advice, construction experience, and, of course, financial support.
This is a very exciting time for Fencers Club and I am very pleased to be part of the FC Board of Directors as we work together as a community to make a significant and lasting contribution to the future of Fencers Club.
Sincerely,
Rex Chung
Chairman
